Large Porcelain Box

Large Porcelain Box

Adapted from the Mechanical Reading and Writing Table with Sèvres Porcelain Plaques made c.1781 by Martin Carlin (c.1730-1785).

The nine mounted Sèvres porcelain plaques with scattered roses and cornflowers, mounted to a small mechanical table, served as the inspiration for this porcelain box.

The table is an exquisite example of the pieces of the Louis XVI period in France that were small and versatile, designed for women, and featured colorful and delicate designs.

The table was purchased by Henry Clay Frick in 1915. Displayed in the Fragonard Room, it remains part of the permanent collection of paintings, sculpture, and decorative arts that comprises The Frick Collection.

These round boxes are custom made for The Frick Collection shop by Mottahedeh, Portugal.

(3.5” in diameter; 1¼” deep)
