Mr. Frick's Favorites

Mr. Frick's Favorites
(Organ music on Compact Disc)

In 1914, Henry Clay Frick had a splendid Aeolian pipe organ built on the staircase landing of his magnificent new Fifth Avenue mansion. The instrument was constructed to the same fastidious standards as the rest of the house, and it remains in fine playing condition to this day.

Beginning this season, The Frick Collection is pleased to offer a recorded program of music performed on this exceptional instrument by the British organist Martin Souter, including many pieces regarded as among Mr. Frick’s favorites. Titles include the Grand March from Verdi’s Aïda, the Pilgrim’s Chorus from Wagner’s Tannhäuser, Handel’s Largo, Dvorák’s Songs My Mother Taught Me, the familiar theme from Beethoven’s Moonlight Sonata, Grieg’s Morning Song, and works by Bach, Saint-Saëns, Gounod, and others.
